is this normal with braces & rubber bands? teeth clenching?!

Question: Is this normal with braces & rubber bands? teeth clenching?
every time i get my braces tightened, or when the rubber bands make them sore, i tend to find myself with my teeth clenched pretty hard. when i ease up and let the clench go, it aches really bad.
the clenching sort of relieves the pain when i bite down again. i do it unintentionally, and I do it alot.
does anyone else do this?
is it bad/harmful in anyway?
normal?

I find myself doing this for the same reasons! It makes the pain go away temporarily for me. I also think that it speeds up the soreness. At least thats what I like to believe!

yes thats normal. im so sorry you have braces those things were such a pain. anytime that i had my braces tightened they hurt so much but not as much as when i first got them on. i think the "clenching" thing as you put it puts pressure on it and it that helps with it some how. this is on sorta a morbid note but think of tightening your braces as putting wires on your teeth that are forcing them where're they're not supposed to be and moving not only your teeth but your jaw structure and gums around too.

at any rate, i did it and i didn't die. haha. nothing happened that was bad and if it helps you i think you shouldn't be too worried about it. good luck hope this helps.

Its all going to be normal. Its not bad we just do it. Do you still clench when the pain from having the braces tightened goes away? If you do not they there is the culprit: pain. I do clench my teeth when my gums are sore from the braces being tightened.... try drinking really cold things at the height of the pain to try and dull it. If the pain lessens maybe you will cease to clench your chompers or not do it as often. :)

Yes, that sounds normal. I had braces and I found the same. I don't see how it can be harmful, aside from slowing the work of the braces the most minuscule amount. Don't worry about it. It's not fun, I'm sorry you have to have them. You should have great teeth at the end of it though. good luck! :)
