I might be getting braces soon!??!?!

Your brother was exaggerating, for starters. I don't think I ever thought that braces "hurt like hell". When they are first being put on, I remember the dentist hitting my gums with his stupid tools hurt more than the actual braces, and having them put on is just a lot of pressure on your teeth. The first few days you have them, your mouth will be uncomfortable, but not like a fiery death. I'd compare the feeling to how it would feel if your gums were bruised. The reason it's uncomfortable is because your teeth are being pulled together or apart and it feels, again, just like pressure on them, and that feeling comes back whenever you go in for a tightening. The only thing I'd say was PAINFUL would be my brackets rubbing against the insides of my cheeks and causing sores, but that can be prevented if you put special wax on the brackets (provided by your orthodontist).

It takes a couple days to get used to eating and talking with them, it'll feel like you have three sets of teeth in there at first, but you'll get used to it quickly. After that awkward phase, you'll be completely used to it.

I don't think that they make guys less attractive, and honestly if a girl is turned off by braces, she's kind of a ****** and you shouldn't be worried about her anyway. There are clear brackets and wires you can ask for though and from a distance people can't even tell you have braces, or you can get them put on the back of your teeth instead of the front (I've heard those are harder to take care of though.) And make sure you do take proper care of them, keep them clean and really try to avoid foods you shouldn't have because broken brackets and poor hygiene can seriously extend your time with the lovely traintracks by years (I had mine for 5 years because I couldn't stop breaking them.)

All that said, it is SOOOO worth it when you get them off. You'll look even more adorable than I'm sure you already do, and you'll be so glad you had them when you have perfect teeth.

Nah, i had my braces for 3 and a half years. Its really not that bad, i mean they hurt .. for the first 2 weeks not a month, and every time you get chain wire for the first 2 or so days. It doesn't hurt when you get em' taken off, well it didn't hurt me. And on attractiveness , it really depends on if they suit you. You get used to how they look really quickly though . I wouldn't worry about it.

It hurts a little but if I had to do it again knowing what I know now, pain would not be a concern for me but then again I have yet to get them removed. Chucks dig braces man trust me at worse they are neutral about it.
