If you cannot see your dentist for three weeks you need to go to your medical doctor and get some antibiotics as soon as possible, even the emergency room would prescribe some- though it is an expensive rout to take. You need to be seen now.

I have difficulty believing that a dental office would make you wait three weeks when you are swollen. Call them back or call another dentist. Your situation is considered an emergency in the dental world. Most dentists will squeeze you in the schedule or keep time open for emergencies. Call the office again, express to them that you are swollen and need antibiotics. Perhaps they will prescribe some for you over the phone if you are a patient of record. Or perhaps they will make time to see you quickly and get you on antibiotics. You may need to insist but do not wait three weeks!

Infections do not get better on their own and salt water and peroxide-water cannot get to the source at the tip of the root in the bone...it will not help much. Good Luck, but get to the dentist today!

I had 4 broken and swollen teeth that hurts at once. I am only 13 years old and I have severe toothache. I don't have a medicaid yet. And I have to wait til' June to go back to the Philippines to get 4 of my teeth pulled out. Since I am waiting til' June, I have found a lot of remedies.
--Lemon Extract
--Vanilla Extract
--Peppermint Extract
--Peanut Butter (yeah, I know weird I read it from a website and it worked for me)
--Salt and Warm water
--Hydrogen Peroxide 3% (CVS)
--Brush your teeth 3 times a day
--Tylenol meltaways
--Advil
--Tylenol

toothache since 6 years old

floss and brush twice. let the toothpaste sit on teeth a minute before rinsing. fluoride is the only known thing that fights cavities. fluoride rinse helps. a dentist will see you immediately if you're in pain. the sooner you see a dentist, the easier and cheaper it will be to repair.

Brine (salt water) has very good cleaning properties. If you swill your mouth out with it morning and night, it should help to prevent infection or help stop it getting worse until you see the dentist.

Brandy has been used to a similar purpose but if I were me, I'd stick with brine.

First I'd find another dentist--any dentist worth having would find a way to squeeze you in between appointments and I'd bet yours will if you can get past the office staff!
Sounds like an infection so I'd try aspirin. Also antiseptic mouthwash.

Ibruprofen could reduce the swelling (and any pain). If you are in agony ring your dentist for an emergency appointment.

It is ok to rinse with hydrogen peroxide...don't over do it...and dilute it a little

If you have swelling there is NO way your dentist should be refusing to see u! Disgraceful!
We ALWAYS get patients in same day esp with swelling. Im guessing you have informed them that you are swollen? Try and find out if you have a dental access centre or dental emergency centre where you live, you can probably find out through your local PCT. Ibuprofen if you can take it will probably work best but you need to see a dentist as soon as poss. When you can I would write a letter of complaint to the manager at the dental practice. Hope you get it sorted
