THIS AN ANESTHETIC THAT TAKES AWAY PAIN SINCE DENTISTS DON'T WANT THEIR PATIENTS SQUIRMING IN PAIN THEY USE IT.
VERY FEW PATIENTS ARE EVER TRULY ALLERGIC TO THEM.
PS: NOVOCAIN, AKA PROCAIN HAS NOT BEEN USED IN DENTISTRY SINCE THE '60s AND NOW LIDOCAINE IS THE MO
ST COMMON DRUG USED.

Hahahaa you must be a Chinese dentist!! They don't know what Novocaine is either...they tried to give me a root canal without it and we're surprised when I complained...and don't even ask for gas because they don't do that either.

Seriously it's medication they use to numb an area for pain control during a dental procedure. If you know what Orajel is then it's basically the same thing. But they shoot the Novocaine into the nerve and a whole section of your mouth will go numb...and they usually give the shot in 2- 3 different locations to make sure the area will cause no pain. They do this because the patient would jerk and pull away if they could feel what was being done. (a normal reaction to pain) but during a dental procedure it could hurt the patient more if they pulled away.

The can give you laughing gas if you are allergic or an IV of a different type of pain relief but just like with surgery- these options carry more risk then the local pain relief because the IV and gas target the whole body and not just one small area.

Novocaine is used to numb the tissue in your mouth. It is also used alongside lidocaine Which does the same job. The shot as it is known is the injection that numbs the tissue. If you are alergic to it u can have gas or IV instead.

I am a dentist
