Just let them know in advance and it shouldn't be a problem. That way they can schedule another patient in your place. Patients that miss multiple appointments and throw a fit over my $25 cancellation fee really bother me. Each appointment that a patient just doesn't show for costs the dentist a lot more than $25. Overhead in a dental office is huge and it is very disrespectful to just fail an appointment. The dentist, or hygienist, has to set everything up for you and then wait for you to show. The least you can do is give them as much notice as possible. Just understand that whatever fine the dentist may charge you is probably much less than how much he loses that day due to you not showing up.
If you have already missed an appointment and it is your first time, just apologize and they will most likely not issue a fee. For future appointments, make sure to show or give notice in advance if you can't.
