Question: Do retainers work good?

i dont really like my teeth and wish they were straighter ive been wanting braces for a while but there expensive and i cant afford them. so im considereing getting a retainer. how much do they cost? and do they work good? my teeth arent that bad, my bottom have a few tiny gaps and my front teeth are a little bit crooked and a bit bigger then the rest of my teeth. so would a retainer fix this? also this dosent have to do with a retainer but my cainine teeth are a little sharper then normal can a dentist file them down and does it hurt?

It is called a retainer because that is what it does, it "retains" teeth. If it were meant to move teeth, it would not be called a retainer.
canines can easily be taken down a little. It wouldn't require a shot and wouldn't hurt at all unless you had a lot of tooth that you wanted to remove.
