has anyone had a tooth cut in half?!

Question: Has anyone had a tooth cut in half?
I've got a fairly straight set of bottom teeth apart from one tooth which is being pushed inwards and upwards by the other teeth and so its considerably longer and is right at the front.

I cant afford braces but my dentist did suggest i could have the tooth cut down. He said I should go away and think about it before making a decision because it could potentially make that tooth extra sensitive for the rest of my life.

I really need to do something as its getting me down a bit and I feel self conscious when I smile or talk. The tooth is quite sensitive as it is.
Has anyone had this done before and if so did it cause extra sensitivity? thanks.

DO NOT LISTEN TO MURPHY! If you do that it'll die and turn black/blue.

My ancestor King Blue Tooth of Denmark I forgot his first name (the real one)

It is called an enamelplasty. He is not cutting the tooth in half but simply removing some of the top of the tooth. The more he removes, the thinner the enamel becomes. You could have it taken down just slightly instead of to where you would like it to make it look better and still keep it from getting too sensitive.

I'm a dentist

yes, i have, but if you have a enough happy juice it should be painless while the procedure is taking place. after wards, there will be discomfort, but nothing a little soup and water can't take care of. don't feel self conscious. you can replace teeth, but you can't replace a face.
