Cost of covering an exposed nerve in tooth-gum area?!

Question: Cost of covering an exposed nerve in tooth-gum area?
Hi All,

On the top left side of my mouth I have some area around my gums where some nerves are exposed. The people at the dentist told me I do not need a root canal. Instead the exposed nerve just needed to be covered. The dentist covered it with some kind of plaster, and it has worked for about 6 months, but it has worn of and I can feel the nerves when cold liquids touch them.

I am in the military so this treatment was free. Soon I am getting out fo the military and be going to school. O looked into dental health insurance, but I was wondering if it was worth buying a policy just for this issue.

Is anyone familiar with this kind of issue? Does anyone know how much it would cost to go to a dentist and have them fix it without insurance?

Thanks ahead of time for your answers.
