Is my Orthodontist right about putting on Triangle Elastics?!

Question: Is my Orthodontist right about putting on Triangle Elastics?
I'm in the final stages of my braces, they already have the retainer mounted to the back of my bottom teeth, he plans to remove both braces in 2 weeks. When I went in, he instructed his assistant to put triangle's on me, and this is the first time in 2 years that I've had triangles. To my understanding, triangle's are supposed to pull the teeth out of their roots to help allign everything. Also, I've been wearing 2 other elastics on my lower molar to top canine to fix overbite. Since I only have 2 weeks left, this makes no sense to me. My roots are going to be loose once I am done my treatment?? Can anyone reassure me and explain his justification to give me triangle's for the LAST 2 weeks of my treatment?

Answers:

your teeth CANNOT be pulled from their roots. The tooth is connected to your root. Your question doesnt make much sense to me. I would advise you to call your ortho office and simply ask why. I am sure they have a good explaination.

I am a dental assisting student.
