Permanent Retainers???????!

Question: Permanent Retainers???????
hey
I got my braces off about a year ago and had permanent retainers put in since the day i got my braces off. There is a metal wire on the top 4 teeth with 4 huge globs of glue on the teeth and a wire on the six bottom teeth with a large blob of glue on those six teeth. It is almost impossible to floss and keep the retainers clean and i am terrified of getting a gum disease from all the plaque buildup. How do i prevent this?

I am also scared that my teeth will decay from all the bacteria underneath the wires and eventually fall out. is this possible? Also, do permanent retainers affect kissing at all?

and if i choose to remove the permanent retainers, im scared that my teeth will chip because of how strong the glue is. is this possible?

It's actually cement that was used to adhere the metal to your teeth. Permanent retainers do not effect your kissing haha. but the plaque build up is not ok, go back to your orthodontist and ask for some cement removal, no dentist or orthodontist should be dumb enough to block out your ability to floss your teeth. Your teeth could decay and this could cause periodontal disease which isn't something you want if you can prevent it, your ortho made the mistake, he/she needs to fix it.

MOUTH WASH WILL NOT PREVENT CAVITIES OR GET RID OF PLAQUE BUILD UP BETWEEN THE TEETH.

Plaque is a sticky material that does not wash away with a rinse, it does not wipe away with your tongue. The only way you can get rid of it is if you brush and floss. If it's not removed it will calcify and become hard, which is a danger to your tissue.

Do you use a special floss threader tool, or a floss with a built-in threader to floss the teeth that are in the bonded retainers? If not, that might help a lot.

If you use a product like this and still have trouble flossing, consider getting an oral irrigator (like a waterpik or one of the OralBreeze irrigators you can hook up to your faucet) to remove food debris. Using a mouth rinse with fluoride will also help.

If you get the retainers removed, the glue will be removed with them. Your teeth will not get chipped when they are removed. Your orthodontist will give you new removable retainers to wear at night instead.

Don't worry! You can always rinse with Crest Pro Health mouthwash to kill germs and prevent plaque buildup. Although, ACT mouthwash is excellent for preventing cavities. I've only had one the size of a pinprick and I use ACT.
