Hard, sore tip of tongue after dentist visit?!

Question: Hard, sore tip of tongue after dentist visit?
I went to see the oral hygienist for a cleaning/inspection. After she cleaned all my teeth, she did something new. She gently grasped the tip of my tongue and pulled it forward a bit. She moved it around a little. Then, she quickly swiped her fingers under each side of my tongue.

She said it's to check for sores/cancers/irritation, etc.

I don't think I have a latex allergy. I used band aids a few months ago that really screwed me up, but my dermatologist said it was most likely the adhesive (she called it "band aid burn).

Anyway, now the tip of my tongue is hard and sore. The tip is only hard when I stick it all the way out and kind of "flex" the muscles. It also looks like a callus, a little bit. How odd! The only thing that irritates it is my prescription toothpaste, which is very minty. I do remember burning my tongue recently, but cannot remember if it were before or after the dentist visit.

Any advice, recommendations, insight, etc appreciated.

Thank you and sorry for the long post!

Answers:

This doesn't seem like a latex allergy to me, especially since most dental offices now (that I'm familiar with) use nitrile gloves instead. It sounds more to me like your tongue might of found its way into one of the instruments she was using to clean your teeth. This has happened to me a couple times in the past, and sounds a lot like what I've gone through. Try warm salt water rinses a few times a day, that should help it heal and feel better. I would definitely avoid the prescription toothpaste, just until it heals.
Hope it gets better soon!!
