I had the same problem when I had all four wisdom teeth removed. If you put a piece of gauze back there and gently bite down on it, there would probably be a brownish coloration on the gauze. I know it sounds gross but this oozing stuff is whats causing that taste and terrible smell. What I did is got some Listerine and rinsed every time it got really bad. And I bought a syringe and blasted water in the holes. This helps a lot to clean them out as there may also be food in the holes where the extraction site was. Hope this helps!

Couldn't stand the taste and smell

If it's painful or inflamed, you might have "dry socket." Otherwise possibly an abscess or infection. It could be that a tooth next to, or nearby where the one was removed has been affected or was going bad prior to the work you had done, and it just started getting worse. I say go back to the dentist who did the extraction and have him check it out. He might have triggered something related.
