Alexis, It is common for your teeth to b e tender for about 1-2 weeks. This is due to the nature of the procedure and its proximity to the nerves. Also the reason you did not feel anything for that day is because the dentist or endodontist gave you a local anesthetic which stops you from feeling any pain. There are common side effects they may include mild pain and discomfort. However, bad pain and swelling are NOT common with this procedure. If you are experiencing bad pain or swelling it is recommended that you call your dentist or endodontist. Feel better!
