Pregnant with terrible teeth :( NHS won't pay for braces.?!

Question: Pregnant with terrible teeth :( NHS won't pay for braces.?
I'm pregnant so using my maternity exemption card for my dental treatment at the moment.
My dentist says all my teeth are fine (even though they LOOK awful).
My teeth are VERY gappy. My two front teeth are very far apart and all other upper front teeth are seperated. This gives me constant anxiety and I'm always self conscious of them when talking to people as I've had so many comments.
I've been offered braces at the dentist but the NHS will not pay for them and they may cost me up to £5000 ! I can't ever afford this but they're affecting me SO much now I'm willing to do anything now...

If I get a front tooth knocked out of place or chipped will the NHS pay?
How can I make the NHS pay?? :(

Your teeth have been that way for years, so you should have started saving for the braces when you got your first job. Talk to your dentist about what kind of payment plans he offers. When you go back to work after baby is born, you and your husband can figure out a budget to pay for the braces.

I'm guessing NHS is some sort of government program where ever it is that you live.

What you are asking is a cosmetic question. The governmental programs are for problems that affect your teeth medically - like fillings, teeth extractions (teeth pulling), or other problems that can threaten your health.

Braces is something that you will have to pay for out of your pocket. Having a gap in your teeth can make you self conscious, and you will probably just have to save up money for it. Sorry!

You can not make them pay. You are trying to do a cosmetic procedure. Learn to be happy with who you are or save up the money to get it fixed.

Im really sorry to rain on your Parade but you Cannot make the NHS fund any Orthodontic Treatment
Im assuming that you are over the age of 18, in which case you will still be expected to pay for treatment and your Maternity Exemption will make No difference!
NHS funding is limited when it comes to orthodontic treatment and I have seen many people refused braces under the NHS because they simply do Not meet the strict criteria which is used to determine who is eligible for nhs funding.
All orthodontists in the UK now follow the Index Of Orthodontic Treatment Need (IOTN) and this is there so that the orthodontist can assess which patient really needs treatment and whose dental health will benefit the most.
A 5 point scale is used to measure the severity of each patients needs and the higher up the scale the more severe the dental needs are.
Many people are left feeling let down when it comes to the Nhs and Braces and assume that braces are offered to everybody under the age of 18 which sadly is Not the case if they do not meet the IOTN criteria!
The only thing you can do is speak to the orthodontist and ask if He/She offers some form of payment plan!
