unexplainable teeth pain, what could it be?!

Question: Unexplainable teeth pain, what could it be?
I went to a dentist last week and he did xrays and said there's nothing wrong, my teeth look fine. I told him that on the top right 2 teeth and top left 2 teeth are sometimes very painful, randomly. He said i have good teeth and he doesn't see anything wrong. So when i left his office i had that random pain again. So i went to another dentist for a 2nd opinion and i had xrays done and he told me everything looks fine to him. He said there's no problem. Yet at randomly it still hurts. Especially when i drink something cold or eat something cold when it makes contact with the teeth it hurts a little. But if nothing is wrong why am i still having pains? Are my teeth just too sensitive? Is there no way to get rid of this pain? (it only began like a month ago.)

Hello,
It doesn't sound like its anyhing serious, if two dentists tell you they can't see an infection then it's probably safe to assume there's no infection there! It could very well be sensitivity. It is difficult to know without looking at your teeth whether there is any erosion on the back surface, this is more common if you regularly drink acidy drinks such as coke or orange juice. Sensitivity is usually on the front teeth as they are very thin, usually lower teeth are more susceptible to pain but not always.

What I would suggest is that you start doing a few things yourself at home to see if they make any difference. Try using a sensitive toothpaste twice a day - make sure its one that contains fluoride. Brush with a soft bristled brush to ensure you aren't damaging the teeth when brushing. Also make sure you buy a fluoride mouthwash. If you can get something called duraphat made by colgate where you live then do so, its brilliant stuff. Its a once weekly rinse (thoroughly brush and floss your teeth before you use it) and it helps strengthen the teeth which may cut down the sensitivity. If you can't get it go to any big chemist and ask for a once weekly fluoride rinse.

Try these things for around 1 month if they help then keep doing them, if not try another dentist :)
Good luck

that must hurt

Mike,
The xrays are not picking up the infection. You need to have the sore teeth redone if they have had crowns before as they are probably hollow like mine were and the x-ray machine is not picking it up.
Some times meat can get stuck in between the molers and cause pain.Get a metal plastic handled tooth pick and clean in between your teeth on a regular basis and that will help eliminate the pain.
