can your gums grow back?!?!?!

Question: Can your gums grow back?!?!?
i recently went to the dentist and i have braces. i hadn't gone to the dentist in about 1 1/2 years because i was told that with braces, people don't go to the dentist (WRONG). like many people i know with braces, i never flossed (i had/have braces for 1 1/2 years now) and i didn't think it was a big deal. my dentist told me that my gums were really bad and he had to clean my teeth a lot. he said if i don't come more often or floss, then i will get white spots and holes. after my appointment, i saw a hole in my gums between my teeth!! i now floss a lot and brush really well, and i just want to know if my gums will grow back!! i turned 14 in late november..so i'm young!!

HELP :O

Hello,
Not sure exactly what you mean by hole in your gums between your teeth? is this hole surrounded by gums or have the gums just receded back in this area.

In any case it is possible for the gums to be regrown to a certain extent- it is important that you brush and floss really well to keep the gums healthy though. Dont be over-excited with the brushing in this area, use a SOFT bristled toothbrush so you do not cause more damage. Also ask your dentist to get the area scaled/ root planed (removal of tartar) which will clean the area allowing the gums to reattatch to the teeth.

Your gums may naturally regrow over time, if you still find there is a hole and it bothers you gum grafts are possible (gum is placed into this area to 'fill the gap'). Try and ask a periodontologist or a gum specialist for more information :)

they can heal but not grow back. just work harder now that you are aware of the damage that can happen. Good luck!
