How can I prepare myself for braces?!

Question: How can I prepare myself for braces?
I'm thirteen year old girl and I'm getting braces on February seventh. I'm going to the dentist for a cleaning and to get a cavity filled on January swenty-sixth. But is there anything I can do to prepare myself for braces? Like stop any habits or anything? Please help! And also, people who have had braces or know what they're like: do you have any tips for me? Thanks in advance!

Hi I have braces and i have had for a few years so i have tons of experience... contact me on :chantal2009@gmail.com. All the other stuff the others mentioned in true but the MAIN thing about braces aint habits or what not to eat... is how it makes you FEEL and how you get used to that feeling... listen I will not lie, at first it was tough (you may feel diffrent from the start, but will have times you WILL wonder)... but I'm MUCH more comfortable with them now, Im even proud of them and they make me feel kinda special, lol!!! But hey if you want to try being self-conscious ... wait until you walk out off to an orthodontist with them on for the first time!!!

I will send you a picture of me now... oh and one I NEVER show anyone ...anyway I could tell you a dozen funny situations with them and how once again I try use humour ... oh I go to an all girls boarding school in CT, South Africa and had to learn to go to the ortho BY MYSELF (scary or what) as im only home in the holidays and mother set it up with an ortho here in city i go to school!! ?? Well contact me on :chantal2009@gmail.com as I could give some more info on what to expect and would and to chat ... Chantal

I have braces-
You CAN drink pop, just not often. They tell you not to, but I still drink it, just only every once in awhile. Also, they recommend staying away from chips, sugary gum, hard candy, etc. Try 5 Gum, and with chips, break them into small pieces. With candy, suck on it. If you break a bracket, don't panic! I've broken tons of mine! Just make an emergency appointment and they'll fix it up for you. Braces hurt at times, especially after getting them tightened, but after a week they don't hurt as much. Don't be afraid to let them know if a wire is poking you, they will trim the wires as short as they can if you just let them know! And when you get your braces off-enjoy your perfect teeth! Another thing~ Oral B (I think) makes something called Super Floss, which is PERFECT for flossing with braces! It is a floss with a stiff end and will go through the wire waaaay easier!!(:
Enjoy:P

I have braces and I have pink and green rubber bands. They did not change color at all and I have had them about a month. At first, it will just be weird and for a while it will be hard to chew, so you should eat soft foods. Try not to bite your nails or chew on pens and pencils

Well I know that when you get braces you cant eat hard candy, apples, soda, juice, sugary drinks, ice pops, or hard bread, Don't bite you're nails and don't chew/bite hard things. (hope this helps).
