You may not be laid up on the couch for too long, but you will of course have to eat soft foods for a while. I had to have all my wisdom teeth extracted in the hospital because the were under my jaw bone (general anaesthesia.) This was years ago, but they gave me an ice pack that literally tied around my head to keep the swelling down, and pain meds. I don't remember feeling bad and being laid up for an unreasonable amount of time, but what I hadn't expected was looking like a chipmunk for a couple of months, my poor face was very swollen. That was the worst part of it for me, never had any complications or infections. Like you said, surgery affects everyone differently, but you will be swollen and sore for quite a while. I have also had other facial surgeries and those too left me bruised and swollen. You'll be fine, just know that you won't look like yourself for a little while. I really wish someone had warned me about the swelling before my surgeries. Just know that it will pass. Good luck and take care.
