Good question and I have had something similar happen to me.
In my case my dentist smoother the rough edge and I let it fall out on its own. See your dentist and get him to explain it to you, ok?
I am not the best dental patient and I used to lose sleep the night before as I was so scared and petrified due to an extremely horrendous experience when I was younger.

But no more as I have a very sympathetic dentist who explains everything to me so that i know what is going on and he uses the least invasive procedure as a matter of course.

You need to overcome your fear from past experience to get the treatment you need as pain, worry and loss of sleep must be overcome.
