What causes involuntary jaw clenching?!

Question: What causes involuntary jaw clenching?

I have had severe jaw pain for a month....I assumed it was my impacted wisdom tooth, however after having it removed I noticed I was clenching my jaw @ night while I sleep. Now I have noticed I do it during the day too. I don't realize I am doing it but must make a conscious effort to stop.
