Braces and Teeth Gringing?!

Question: Braces and Teeth Gringing?
Hi all, wonder if anyone can give me some advice.

Im wanting to get orthodontics carried out on my upper teeth to close some gaps using braces however i have been told each time i go to the dentist that i am teeth grinding in my sleep and that there is wear on the two back teeth on each side .

Firstly im wondering is it still possible to have orthodontics done on someone that teeth grinds?Secondly just wondering how do they anchor the braces at the back of the mouth? Is it a loop around the back tooth or just some kind of anchore on the side of the back tooth?

Many thanks everyone.

Answers:

I believe you can still have orthodontic work as a teeth grinder. I was a teeth grinder and had braces, and I also grew out of teeth grinding. Yes it is a thin metal thing they put around the back teeth to anchor the braces. It doesn't hurt or anything though

Teeth Grinding / Bruxism can have a variety of causes, and hence a variety of teeth grinding treatments are available. Teeth grinding in sleep is a most common type of sleep grinding, and is often treated using a teeth grinding guard in the mouth. In it's most severe form, teeth grinding can destroy most of your teeth and give you soaring dental bills - the earlier the teeth grinding treatment is commenced, the better the outcome. Definition, signs and symptoms, causes and treatment, are all covered below.
