Dentist making up cavities?!

Question: Dentist making up cavities?
I went to the dentist for a cleaning, all seemed fine and dandy. The hygienist was a sweet lady, while cleaning my teeth she mentioned that they were beautifully white, and hardly any to no cavities. I thought all was well. (I take good care of my teeth, im ocd with brushing & flossing)

Until the dentist comes in, looks in my mouth (without me really asking or wanting), then tells me that I must really be eating sweets because I have 10 cavities. She takes the xray from my hand, never points out where any of my cavities are on the xray to show me.

She asks when was the last time I came, I tell her a year, she gives me a rude response "You sure? doesnt seem like it!"

She notices that she's making me feel upset by the look on my face, she changes her voice to a fake sweeter tone "Oh I didn't mean to discourage you!" (Yeah, right... fufufu)

She then writes down all the cavities that I somehow have, and tells me it will cost me 1600$ and that I should book the appointment with her to get it done.

My father comes in (who doesn't have the best teeth), her first words to him? "You know they offer dentures, any color you want for a good price!" And was completely rude as he talked to her.

I suppose what I'm getting at is, do you think this lady is making up cavities so that she gets more income?

Last time I went to this same office I had '5 cavities' I left the office, got a second opinion and was told I had none. I was told that what the other dentist said was cavities, was just spots.
But now, I have 10????

Im thinking Im going to get another opinion. If I have the cavities, I DO want to get them fixed. But, I don't want to drill my teeth for nothing, that would just cause more harm.

Has anyone else had similar problems? Please do share!

Answers:

Definitely get a second opinion - sounds a bit dubious to me. When I was a kid (many years ago!) our family dentist used to be very drill-happy. I'm absolutely sure he drilled perfectly healthy teeth. Anyway, as a consequence, my adult teeth were wrecked by him - I've had nothing but trouble ever since.

You are entitled to have the x ray transferred to another dentist and then get a second opinion. You own the x ray and they can not prevent you from transferring it to a new dentist.

Most are honest, but sounds like you found one that just wants to drum up business. Go see another dentist, and never go back to that one again.
