I probably have to get a root canal and I have a few questions?!

Question: I probably have to get a root canal and I have a few questions?
Okay so I have a deep cavity on one of my bottom molars and I've had it for a couple of years. My stupid fear of dentists let it get this bad so now I have a lot of pain in this tooth. It's almost unbearable. Anyways, I'm gonig to the dentist Friday and I'm almost positive I'll have to get a root canal. I'm so scared I'm only 13 D: I know it will fee la lot better afterwards but I'm dreading it. So my questions:
1. How bad did your personal root canal hurt?
2. What was the worst part?
3. Can I request to be put to sleep? If so, is it a good idea?
4. How bad did the numbing shot hurt? [I hate needles]
5. Is it as bad as everyone says it is?

Thanks so much guys.

Answers:

1. None of my root canals hurt. Not during, and not after. The pain before the procedure was bad.

2. The worst part was how long it took. Boooooring. Oh and the numbness after from the injection, can't talk properly, can't drink without drooling.

3. It is unlikely they will put you to sleep for something that is a relatively simple procedure.

4. The numbing shot didn't really hurt, but I did feel a little sting when the needle went in. Ask the dentist for some numbing paste for your gum before the injection. This way you won't feel a thing.

5. I don't think it is bad at all. I actually rather liked the part where they use tiny files to shape the inside on the roots. It's like finally getting an itch scratched I've not been able to reach.
