Braces/ceramic/gap teeth, help wanted!?!

Question: Braces/ceramic/gap teeth, help wanted!?
Ok, so I'm finally getting my braces exactly a week from today! I'm 18 years old and have been asking since a child, waiting since May of last year, & now it's finally time. My teeth have never been horrible, but because of a speech impediment the gap in the middle of my two front teeth never grew in together, just like most of my siblings. It's about medium sized, I'll attach a photo below. Anyways, to get to my question, I can withstand the look of braces, I just think having braces on top of a gap is going to look quite silly. How long is it going to be before the braces close the gap (not how long till I get them off!)? Thanks & anything advise helps! (: P.S. Does anyone know about ceramic braces, the supposedly "clear/see-through ones", are these as great as they seem to be? Should I get them on my top row of teeth? Are they worth the extra cost? Should I call my dentist to ask him if he does them?

the ceramic braces are the best, and most effective. they don't take nearly as long to straighten your teeth, than the metal ones. they might take about 2-5 months to close your gap, it all depends. you should only get them on the top row of teeth, because they wear the enamel on the top teeth if they're placed on the bottom. i think they're worth the extra cost, they're less time consuming then the other ones, and they work MUCH better. also, i think you should check with your dentist to see if he does them, most do. but you never know.

hope this helps (:

Hi Chelsea,

Best person to discuss this with is your orthodontist. Ask him these questions and make sure you hav eit explained before he does anything so that you get the treatment that you are willing to go for.
