How/When should I stop my daughter from thumb sucking?(Dentist Opinion Please )?!

Question: How/When should I stop my daughter from thumb sucking?(Dentist Opinion Please )?
My daughter will be 1 in 10 days and I have been constantly trying to get her to stop sucking her thumb since she was about 2 months. It seems like she was just born with this habit. Her 2 front teeth have already came in and are slightly crooked but its not really bad. I want to take her to a dentist but most start taking them at age 2. So I was wondering what should I do to get her to stop or should I just kind of wait?

STOP AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.
i'm not a dentist but i was a a thumb sucker, i just quit about.. 2 months ago. i'm 15
put lemon juice on her fingers, or tie ribbons on them at night, so she won't stick her finger in her mouth.
but again, try to stop the habit asap, because it could cause her some serious mouth problems,
for example; i have to get jaw surgery to get my jaw put back in place, because all the years i've been thumb sucking my jaw hasn't grown properly. apparently it causes serious headaches. my teeth protrude, but it's different for some people. the top of her mouth could cave, which i don't think can be fixed. her teeth could rot because when sucking you thumb, you produced more saliva which leads to wearing of the enamel, just like acid wear.
my family is going in the hole $6400 for surgery and braces. i hope i didn't scare you in any way.

i hope i've helped.
good luck!

thumb sucker for 15 years

Actually it is highly recommended a child start seeing the dentist soon after the first teeth erupt.
My daughter was also a thumb sucker...to the point she would keep her thumbnails so soft that they would fall off. It can cause significant mouth problems....too many to list and go into detail about. If you cannot find a dentist for toddlers near you I suggest you speak with your pediatrician. We tried everything from hot sauce to bandaging her thumbs. Finally we succeeded by using apple bitters which are for stopping dogs from chewing up your things. You can buy this at the vet, the pet store or in the pet section at most stores....obviously it is non-toxic. I wish you luck.

Sucking her thumb is not a bad thing since she is barely 1 years old. Many babies grow out of that themselves. If you are really concerned, try having her use a teether, because it could be the sucking helps the irritation of the new two front teeth. Baby oragel might get her to stop too, put a little bit on her gums near the two teeth.

asking a dentist LOL like they will tell you they want you to have to pay for braces and all that goes with it

you should put something that won't hurt her eyes but taste yucky on her thumbs - maybe some sort of baby food she doesn't like. I would suggest lemon juice but she may get it in her eyes
