Have you ever had a root canal? was it painful?!

Question: Have you ever had a root canal? was it painful?
I am getting a root canal in a couple weeks and I am a little nervous. I have an infection in my tooth but it is being treated with antibiotics right now. It has been bothering me for a couple weeks now. Ever since I got my last filling in that tooth it has been sensitive to cold and pressure so something needs to be done. My two choices are getting it pulled and a root canal. I don't want to get it pulled because the tooth is still in good condition (besides being sensitive pressure and cold) but I am nervous about getting a root canal because I don't know if it will be painful or not.

I had two root canals done and they aren't painful. As long as you have a good dentist it should be little to no pain at all.

It is painful, but it's not as bad as you think it would be because of the anesthesia. It's actually a lot worse after the operation when the anesthesia begins to wears off. Buy some pain medication (such as Ibuprofen) and an icepack before hand, and when you do take your pain meds, make sure to take it with food so that it doesn't cause indigestion.
