NHS Dentist trying to quote £600 private for bridge? Surely they HAVE to do it o!

Question: NHS Dentist trying to quote £600 private for bridge? Surely they HAVE to do it on NHS if other treatment is?
Im due to have a back molar removed on friday. When i went to see the dentist about it in december they told me a bridge would be around £600. so i declined as the tooth is not visible in my smile. However looking on the internet the standard NHS charge is £198. Why is he quoting my private prices? Surely they have to do it on the NHS as i see them on the NHS and the extraction is being done on the NHS?

The dentist is allowed to mix and match NHS and private together under the current contracts.

Yes, the costing under the NHS is £198 but no dentist can cover the time involved in the preparation, the study models and the laboratory fee to make the bridge and then the fitting of it for that fee.

Preparation is for two teeth and the bridge span is the gap and two teeth.

He cannot so it for that fee because time, materials and costs far outweigh the fee that he will get from the NHS for making it.
His quote is good compared with others that have been mentioned here.

A small discreet partial plate that you were all the time and take out and clean when you do your teeth will be cheaper but for the same reasoning you will do better to have it made privately.

You could phone round but you will come up with the same answer at the majority of surgeries.

Best bet is to just ask your dentist why can't he do it on the NHS, but it seems as though dumdedum knows what they are talking about, and its true it would probably cost more than £198 for all of materials etc. to fit a bridge.
