ok so this is my dental story are there any other options?!

Question: Ok so this is my dental story are there any other options?
So in 2008 i had surgery on my #5 tooth on the left side to attach a chain because it was sideways. A few weeks later I was fitted with braces but as they were attaching it it came off and I had another surgery. Fast foward two years, in the last year there was no change in my tooth so we took another x ray and found that the root behind my tooth was larger than normal so i had yet another surgery to get a biopsy done to make sure it was not a tumor and change the position of my chain, because they thought that may be why it is not moving. Now my chain just fell off as i was eating and i am soooooo sick of all of this ( I am only 13) i was woundering if their are any other options for me?

Answers:

I had my number six on the right side pulled a few months ago after THREE (count 'em, three) unsuccessful attempts to attach a chain from different directions. I'm 14. The surgeries hurt like crap and I got sick of it, so I had mine pulled. Now, I have severe bone loss and may have to have a series of bone grafts before i can consider an implant when I'm 16. *sigh* I guess everyone has something. For me and you, it's our stupid teeth :) . Now I wear a retainer with a fake tooth attached to it, you can hardly tell if you're not looking for it. Also, possibly due to too much fluoride in the water when I was little, I have really low enamel and decalcification of my teeth, making them a funny bright white, streaky color, making it hard for the braces to stick. Oh, and don't worry if it seems like the chain fell out when you were eating, it could just be a little piece. However, if you see a little bracket on the end of the part that fell out, then it's time to worry. Don't panic, you're not alone. At least your surgeon didn't cut open your lip with the scalpel while performing the surgery, like he did to me, so I have a nice big scar to remember it by. The point of this long story was to say that it'l all work out, so enjoy life! <3 <3 <3

I would suggest you one thing!!!!
TRUST YOUR DENTIST!
they are the experts and they are more worried about your teeth that you! because you are now their patient and they have a case which is challenging and have shown some great set backs, so they will try their hard to solve it easily.

Please have patience and follow your dentist, because they know what they are doing.

Just pull the tooth.

Dont "Just pull the tooth". What a silly suggestion.

I had a chain on my #10 because it was stuck in the jaw and they had to maually pull it down as well (but I had no problems). I also had braces for 5 years (so I kinda know about this frustration!).

There is obviously a reason they still want that tooth in your mouth. They may have to remove the tooth, but it sounds to me like they are trying to treat the problem before operating again. If they decide to remove the tooth, it would not be a pleasant operation seeing as it would be complicated by the larger than normal root. I understand that you may be sick of all this work on your teeth, but you are very fortunate to be able to afford to have work done at all (or have insurance). There are some kids out there that would kill for the opportunity to have their smiles corrected.

I would suggest that you tell your folks about the chain problem again and you all should sit down with your orthodontist really soon and discuss what options are available to you. He will know more than your dentist (about the plan) because he is the one trying to treat your smile and knows if he wants that tooth there. Good luck to you!
