How do they shape teeth?!

Question: How do they shape teeth?
I got my braces off a while ago, and my top outside incisors are really pointy like canines. My orthodontist said that if I want I can go to my dentist and he will make them less pointy to look more like incisors, and I will get a new retainer free if I want to go through with it. I was wondering, how would they reshape my teeth and will it hurt and how long will it take on average? My teeth don't look terrible now so if it would be extremely painful I'm fine with just leaving them as they are, but it's nice to have the option there :) Thanks x

I would not suggest getting your teeth "sanded down". It removes good enamel, which protects your teeth from injury, sensitivity, and other problems. Your incisors will wear away on their own (its called attrition). I got my canines ground down for esthetic reasons and now they are super sensitive.

Talk to your dentist to make sure it is the best option for you. I do know that some dentists and orthodontists will refuse to grind your teeth down because it is considered 'bad practice' by some.

Good luck!

I am a dental assisting student.

They can shape you teeth by sanding them down, ask about it? I need to get my from teeth sanded down, as my retainers loosened and my front tooths moved backwards a bit, and looks taller than my other teeth, so I'll enquire about getting it sanded so it looks level. Hope this helps! :)
