Questions about partial?!

Question: Questions about partial?
I am 13 years of age.In December I went to the dentist for the first time in about a year.He said that My front four teeth and three in the back are beyond repair,I'm just glad my whole mouth was not beyond repair.Anywho-I'm going back Febuary the 15th to get the mold for my parital/flipper for my front four teeth that will be pulled.my three back teeth are in the back so I guess I won't have but one tooth in the back left.My questions:What do they do to mold the teeth?,How will the partial stay in my mouth??,Will having a partial change my speech/the way I talk??Thank you so much!!If you have any advice-it would be greatly appreciated!!

Answers:

To mold your teeth the dentist will have to take an impression. What this means is that they will use a tray (sort of like a mouth piece) and fill it will a soft material that will harden while it is in your mouth (usually takes 2-5 minutes depending on what material they use). They will send this to a lab, unless they actually have a lab in the office, where the impression will be used to make a mold. They also, along with you, should choose a shade that your teeth in the denture will be. Hopefully one that will match with the teeth that you have remaining in your mouth. It probably will require a couple more visits to the dentist as they adjust the mold to make a denture that fits well and looks good.

The partial should stay in place by wrapping around/clipping onto your existing teeth.

It probably will take some time getting used to but eventually the way you talk should feel and sound normal to you.

They usually look pretty natural and undetectable. You might talk funny for a few days, but at 13 you will adjust quickly to that.

Acrylic partials usually stay in fairly well and most like them. 4 anterior teeth is getting to be several teeth. It might not be snug tight, but it will probably be pretty darn tight.

Best of luck.
