Tooth extraction...Won't stop bleeding?!

Question: Tooth extraction...Won't stop bleeding?
I just had a tooth pulled about 3 hours ago.
I'm spitting out nothing but tons of blood.
I'm hungry, I want to eat but I'm scared.
I keep putting that stuff in but it will
just not stop bleeding :(

Is this normal.?

Answers:

Try biting on a wet tea bag the tannic acid will help stop the bleeding, also biting pressure on gauze, def don't smoke or suck through a straw, that should help it stop if not tomorrow morning def call ur dr

I'm a registered dental assistant

First of all stop spitting! That will only delay the healing process (just as rinsing, drinking through a straw, drinking carbonated or alcoholic drinks will). As other have said you should apply pressure on the area by biting down on sterile guaze (which the dentist should have given you) or a moist tea bag. Keep pressure on the area for at least an hour, unless the guaze/tea bag is so saturated with blood that you need to change it. Eventually the pressure should allow the bleeding to stop and healing to occur. Also, do not play with the area or keep disturbing it, just let it be as much as possible to allow for proper healing.

I'd suggest a tampon if you have one nearby, because the bleeding can lead to hypothermia if it exceeds 2.5 hours or 1.5 Liters.

After 3 hours it should no be bleeding this bad, maybe a little bit but not that bad. You should call your dentist.

hold an icecube to it. the cold will help staunch the bleeding

put a regular tea bag on it
