Was this a stupid decision?!

Question: Was this a stupid decision?
I'm getting braces soon and the orthodontist suggested that I pull out 4 teeth. I wasn't sure if this was a good decision. I didn't do much research and I agreed. I already pulled out 2 teeth and I regret it already. My teeth weren't even that bad. It was a little crooked, but not that serious. My top front teeth were sticking out a bit and there was a small gap between them, that was the only part that needed to be fix. My bottom teeth were perfect pretty much. The orthodontist also did say my mouth was sticking out a bit, but I think I looked fine. :(

I heard stories of people's jaw looking smaller and stuff because they pulled out teeth.... Will this happen to me too? D:

It depends how much your teeth is crooked. In order to straighten out your teeth without extractions, you would have to push your teeth outward - a larger circumference has more room than a small circumference. However, one risk would be that your teeth could literally move out of the jawbone as they moves forward. With extractions, you don't have to flare your teeth out but rather push them towards the spaces of the extracted teeth. Whatever space is left after moving the front teeth back is occupied by moving the back teeth forward.

An orthodontist usually looks at your facial profile and makes a decision based on how you would look after braces. Flaring your teeth out when extractions should have been done can give you a "monkey" look; extracting teeth and moving your front teeth back when they should have been flared out can give you a "witch" profile.

You made the wrong decision but it was not stupid because you did not know and neither did the professional you went to. So YES, all the things that can result from having bicuspids extracted will happen to you. Your mouth will be smaller than normal, your back teeth will not line up properly, your facial profile will suffer (dished-in appearance of the mouth area), and since you are a female, you will almost certainly develop TMJ later. When your jaw starts clicking and popping, that will be the first sign of a TMJ disorder.

If the doctor recommended to get some teeth pulled it is probably because you have over crowding which can really mess up your jaw sometimes as for those stories that is not always true. the only time its true if you have to get a lot of teeth pulled
