Scared to go to the dentist?!

Question: Scared to go to the dentist?
I have to go to the dentist because I have a gum infection. I have never liked going to my dentist. He seems like a scum bag. I don't think he even cares that I'm suffering in pain, but just tries to get things done as quick as possible. I've never had a good experience at the dentist, I've always left in pain. What can I do to relieve pain or calm me down before I go to the dentist.

Just like any other service provider, your dentist is subject to the laws of supply and demand. Call the receptionist and ask to see another dentist in the office. If there's not another one available in the office, find another office. Dentists are plentiful and you don't have to put up with poor customer service.

If you have to go to this particular dentist, take an aspirin, Tylenol or Motrin before you go. It will help keep you from stressing out. Ask for nitrous oxide before he gives you a shot. The gas will help you relax. If you just have an infection, you may be able to get a prescription for an antibiotic and get out without any work done.

Make sure you get a good night's sleep before going in and drink lots of water to help flush any toxins, including stress hormones, out of your system.

can you not switch to another dentist?

@maley alot of dentists will talk to their assisstants as a way of distracting the patient if they are nervous. my dentist will sometimes do it with me.
