What product should I use to clean my mouth after getting my tongue pierced?!

Question: What product should I use to clean my mouth after getting my tongue pierced?
My tongue is swollen after I got it pierced. I know this is common, but it hurts alot. Any suggestions for what I can do to make it a bit more comfortable? And.. at the place I got pierced, they said that the cleaning product I should use was Listerine, the mouthwash. On the web it says that I shouldn't be in contact with strong things that can damage my tongue, chemically, and that alcohol was risky. To me it makes sense, and because Listerine contains alcohol and burns when used, I am just wondering it's dangerous or is this how it's supposed to be? I'm just freaking out after reading about all kinds of infections :S

sperm!!!

You should be rinsing several times a day with filtered water and sea salt. 1-2 teaspoons with luke warm water to help it dissolve. Don't over do it though. You can also take ibuprofen to help keep the swelling down. It's good to suck on ice throughout the day as well.

I have had many piercings and am very good friends with highly reputable piercers in NYC and Salt Lake City.

A glass of warm water with a teaspoon of table salt, gargle and spit out. Hydrogen peroxide is also good to rinse, not drink. You can buy it anywhere in the section they sell first aide stuff.

Try out the Listerine....take only a little bit and if it hurts spit it rite out. Then again there's other mouthwashes that aren't supposed to "burn" but I'm not sure what they are..

Gargle salt water.

Boil a glass of water and put 2 tablespoons of salt in it & wait for it to cool then use it like mouth wash. On the subject of alcohol; yes & no. Don't have alcopops as it contains sugar etc. Vodka would be fine. Listerine burns your mouth without having your tongue pierced, so I'm guessing it'll kill with a pierced tongue! Just stick with the salt water if I were you. Alcohol would clean the 'wound' too though. You can also buy some antibiotics too. Your pharmacist will recommend some for you.

I spent a lot of time working in a tattoo shop. One girl had her tongue pierced, but a few days later her tongue swelled, wrinkled & turned brown. She couldn't speak and was in a lot of pain. We advised her not to eat solid food. So she ate a lot of soup & drank alcohol. She was fine within a few days. Just try not to eat unless you have to. Clean your mouth every 4 hours to get rid of bacteria.
