what do most people get, amalgam or resin?!

Resin Composite restorations and Amalgam restorations each have their pro's and cons.

Most dentists would use a composite restoration in the anterior, or front teeth because they are much more aesthetic.

Old school dentists are more likely to use amalgam restorations because they do last a bit longer, especially in the posterior, or back teeth, due to the chewing force.

A composite should last several years, if your last one did not, the dentist made a mistake, and should fix it for you...they might not have 'cured' it correctly or they might not have kept the tooth dry enough.

New school dentists are more likely to use resin composite because it looks nicer and it doesn't have harmful amalgam in it...which people are really freaking out about these days in the dental world.

If these dentists use amalgam ONLY, I would say RUN...they sound like they are stuck in the 1950's and need to adopt a more current outlook on dentistry. Everyone and every cavity is different.

What you get entirely depends on you. There's too much politics about amalgam and resin that you do not want to get involved.Convictions also vary from country to country. So, you decide-- but also consider the cost. Amalgam is cheaper and lasts longer while resins are more expensive and last for a shorter period of time.

ive had resin in one of my teeth for nine years now, i had in another two but my new dentist didnt liked it and changed it to silver amalgam. i put it yesterday and believe me i cant eat proprely anymore because last time the fork touched the amalgam it shocked me! it was the most awful pain ever and my teeth had never hurt before. I just hope my dentist can change it back to resin without damaging my teeth i hate her for this. oh did i mention the methalic taste? yes... go for resin
