The removal and replacement of the diseased or dead root of a tooth. The tooth is anesthetized, the root chamber opened, all root material is removed (there can be four or more roots in a large tooth), the cavity is then filled with a neutral material and the root cavity is closed. Usually the tooth will then need to be capped with a crown.

Used to work for a dentist.

Root canal treatment (also called endodontics) is needed when the blood or nerve supply of the tooth (known as the pulp) is infected through decay or injury. You may not feel any pain in the early stages of the infection. In some cases, your tooth could darken in colour which may mean that the nerve of the tooth has died (or is dying).

Basically, the dentist removes the nerve inside the tooth and fills the gap that it leaves.

The dentist drills a small hole in your tooth and scrapes out the nerve. Then you won't get tooth pain.

A long time in the dentist's chair!

And painkillers

digging out the nerve from your tooth.
