need opinion on braces situation!?!

Question: Need opinion on braces situation!?
okay so the ortho said i have 2 choices for getting my teeth and overbite/overjet fixed. I have some crowding on my upper teeth...on the bottom only one tooth is crooked and i have a pretty bad overbite/overjet but its not extremly bad.

1. get only upper braces. it would fix the bad crowding on the top. my teeth would be straight but i would have to live with an overbite. need braces for 6-10 months. perfect upper teeth but still that one crooked tooth on the bottom

2.get upper and lower braces; have 2 permanent teeth removed; correct overbite that way. have baces for 2 and a half maybe 3 years. but get perfect teeth

the cost is also a huge difference. and also im in high school so i kinda dont want braces but i do want like straight teeth!

THANKSS!! (:

Answers:

Both options are bad but #2 is worse. The second option will very likely cause TMJ problems and you don't want to go there. Google TMJ or TMD and you will see why. Extracting bicuspids have been shown to cause TMJ disorders. If you are going to have orthodontics, then get it done right and have BOTH arches treated. Crowding should be fixed by expansion of the jaws rather than pulling perfectly good teeth. Bicuspid extractions will make the mouth smaller than normal, make the upper back teeth not line up properly with the lower back teeth, make the facial profile look worse by making the mouth area look mushed in, and make the lower jaw bite too far back thereby causing TMJ problems. It would be in your best interest to find another orthodontist, preferably one who will do non extraction treatment.

functional orthodontist; treated TMJ since 1984

I agree with the first answer.
But, I have a HORRIBLE overbite, and my whole bottom
teeth were crooked.
I got upper and lower with rubber bands, and it made it
A LOT better.
But for you, I think you should get upper and lower - depending on the
teeth getting pulled.. (front or back?)

It Depends What 2 Teeth Will b removed. if there in the back go for 100% strait. of in the front. i would go for top only

2!!!! perfect teeth r nice plus after ur use to braces it's fine!
