Stick to soft foods that are high in nutrition, such as bananas, mashed potatoes, etc. Take advil or tylenol as directed and make sure you're taking in plenty of fluids. You can also supplement your diet with Ensure or Boost nutritional drink until you're able to ingest enough protein. Eat soft, non-stringy meats like boiled or baked chicken & fish, but make sure to cut the pieces small so chewing is minimal. I was in orthodontia for 5 years total, and this is what got me through! Milkshakes are always great as well. :) It may hurt now, but it will pay off in the end.
It all actually depends on where your getting them done at
at my old place, i couldnt chew gum
and my new place i can just not all the time
some things that are pretty generic that you cant eat is like, hard candy
and biting into really hard things. POPCORN. not at all. there are ways of getting around it though. like if you want to eat popcorn, dont chew on it like your starving to death, more like let it melt in your mouth chewing slowely so it doesnt get jammed in a bracket [which hurts]
sometimes, they dont want you to bite into anything, plus its really annoying because it all gets stuck in your front teeth so they want you to like, tear it off and eat it that way.
When i first got them dont, my mouth hurt for a week/ 2 weeks
i couldnt eat anything solid, for awhile because it hurt sooooo freaking bad.
and letting a spoon or something hit your teeth, felt like you were takng a sledge hammer to . Lol !
but it gets better !
heyyy its gonna be worth it in the end though.
I have braces and i have been to 3 different ones because i movedd a bunch
The orthodontist will tell you exactly what you can and can't eat, basically anything chewy, like gum, can't be eaten. Honestly, it's gonna hurt like hell for a little, and every month when you get them tightened it'll hurt again for a day or so.
Don't eat gum!! that never went well for me.. or toffee or overly sticky candy.. and just make sure to brush when you are done eating.. nothing worse than smiling and having lunch stuck in em.. also the first week will be tender on your teeth as well as any time you get them tightened.
Hope this helps!
They don't hurt, it's more like a sore feeling. You get used to it though. Eat lots of ice cream and soup for the first week or so. Also having a little bit of pain killer is not a bad idea.
You can eat anything you want to when wearing braces - they are just elasticated straps that go over your shoulders for holding your trousers up! ha ha ha
You shouldn't chew gum, eat hard or taffy like, candy, corn on the cobb, things of that nature. Anything else would probably be fine.
