Filing them down gets rid of the enamel, which protects the teeth and makes them more susceptible to immediate cavities without that protection. Some may tell you it's fine to do, but it's really not a good idea. I've read the horror stories of people who had this done. Like yourself for who you are, as you are - it's not worth it.
