stopping calcus to build up on teeth!! Help?!

Question: Stopping calcus to build up on teeth!! Help?
hi i've been attending a dentist recently to get extensive cleaning done on my teeth, i had a bad build up of calcus behind lower teeth. Hadn't been to a dentist in 5 years due to a real bad phobia. Anyway the dentist did a great job, and we've been keeping on top of things, but i haven't to go back for 3 months for a check. I have been left with the 'long tooth' look at lower teeth mainly due to gums receeding and little pockets that developed between teeth. I am brushing with a good quality electric tooth brush religously, and flossing too, but i'm finding it difficult to really get into the middle 2 lower front teeth at very bottom of tooth. I don't want another build up of calcus to come on, and at last dental appointment the dentist had to go over that area to clean as he said there was a little build up already ( in a 2 week gap in visits), but it was soft and not hardened so easy to remove. Is there any little dental brushes that would get into that area to clean it efficiently? flossing doesn't seem to help really much.

Best thing to do is clean your teeth 3x a day, and use floss at least 2 times a day. Especially after eating sticky or sweet foods that get stuck between the teeth.. Drink plenty of water, and if you drink carbonated drinks, brush your teeth a.s.a.p.

Also, get an Oral B toothbrush, it's the electric type..It has a round head. It's made to conform to the shape of your teeth. When you brush, pick up the brush and lie it gently on one tooth, then quickly lift it off that tooth, and on to the next..until you've brushed your whole mouth. Don't use a back and forth brushing motion. It's not good for the enamel. The Oral B brush is made to be a "polishing type" toothbrush, which is what you need.. Be sure and get in between your teeth as best you can. Especially the teeth that are hard to reach in the back. Also the inside of your front bottom and top teeth. These areas seem to be the places most people have trouble, with cavities, plaque, etc.. It will really pay off next time you go to the Dentist. Best of luck..

Rarely get cavities, or plaque unless I use a regular toothbrush... Also, most of the information is from my Dentist...

Hi Marb,

I have been ashamed of my smile for a number of years and was too nervous to seek help. I was so anxious and would always hide it by turning away or putting my hand over my mouth. I always want to improve my appearance but do not want to undergo anything too invasive.

I have been using a waterpik which beats flossing handsdown. Check it out at : http://amzn.to/beatflossing
