Question: I had a root canal done about a year go?
and just last night it really started hurting, I haven't been able to chew anything on the left side of my mouth because of it, even if I don't eat anything on that side I can feel a slight throbbing underneath it, also when I cough I can feel the same feeling. What could be causing the problem?

You could have an abscess near the root of an adjacent tooth or a bacterial infection in the bone above where your root canal was done. You could also have a cavity in an adjacent tooth that is deep and exposing the root. A trip to the dentist asap should be your first priority.
Some teeth have a forth root that gets missed by the dentist. You need to go back to the dentist and get it checked out.
