Tooth cracked in half, whole side of head in pain, but unable to afford a dentis!

Question: Tooth cracked in half, whole side of head in pain, but unable to afford a dentist?
A couple weeks ago one of my back teeth cracked in half. I tried to wiggle it free, but it wouldn't budge. There has been a constant throbbing since this happened that's made it hard to sleep, and eating has become a lesson in torture. I woke up this morning and I found that I couldn't hold my right eye completely open. There's this stabbing through the side of my face like someone's whacking me with a board of nails.

I called every local dentist, but they all said that since I have no insurance I'd have to show up with enough cash in hand to at least cover half the bill. This is cash I don't have. I make minimum wage and barely get by as it is. None of my family can help either. I called a couple social services places, but strangely enough I make too much for them to help me. So it's like I'm screwed on every front. I guess I could run to the emergency room, but I don't even think they do dentistry there. So what can I do?

Answers:

This is serious because beyond the pain you are in, the infection from a rotten tooth can cause the bones in your jaw to become eroded and all of your teeth will have to be pulled out or you can get a bacterial infection in your blood or in your brain. Call the dental society in your area. There has to be a dental facility that will accept payments . If you live in a rural area, you could call the nearest dental school and ask if they have a free clinic. Go to your church and see if the pastor has someone in the congregation who would see you , or see if they could provide the funds to make the payment for you as a charity case. You might have to swallow your pride, but sometimes that is what it takes to get help.
If your face is swelling or you are running a fever, it is probably necessary for you to go to the county hospital and beg for help. They Can probably provide you with antibiotics and pain relievers and may have a dental surgeon who would see you if the tooth has in fact created an abcess.
Since we are into the weekend and your eye is being affected, the E.R. is probably where you should go.

Best you can do is ask a friend to front you the money and you pay it back in small increments - you really need to see a dentist. For temporary pain, I'd suggest some toothache gel (can buy it at local drug store).

Apparently Episkey works as well on teeth as it does on noses.

You got to get that taken care of. It will not heal itself and things can turn bad fast with something like that. All else fails I would consider the emergency room.
