Is there a connection between severe tooth/gum pain and PMS?!

Question: Is there a connection between severe tooth/gum pain and PMS?
I have a friend who mentioned this a while back--she's had a hysterectomy and the problem tooth removed but she still has pain during certain times when she normally would have had her period. I had a tooth removed a couple of months ago and I am now experiencing a similar situation where there is severe pain in the gum area that the tooth was extracted and it coincides with other PMS issues--breast tenderness, bloating, etc... I was simply curious to know if there is some medical reasoning behind this or if it's just a coincidence/isolated incident.

The pain is akin to the kind I had when the tooth was fractured--it hurts when pressure is put on the area a.k.a. chewing, and stops hurting as long as I'm not chewing on it.

Answers:

Yes, hormones play a role in gum health. This is why women when they are pregnant often have tooth and gum problems. And women who are carring triplets or quadruplets or more end up having bleeding gums.
