bicuspids removal for braces!?!

Question: Bicuspids removal for braces!?
So I got braces like 2.5 years ago and the dentist was able to make enough room for my upper teeth to align them without the need of extractions, around 6 months ago he put braces on my lower teeth without extraction aswell. Until about 2 months ago the lower teeth were way infront causing an overbite so he told me he had to extract 2 bicuspids only for the lower teeth, which seemed weird since all my friends who had braces had 4 of those removed. So he went ahead and removed those, after 2 weeks he put the braces on my lower teeth and so far they are looking good, the gap from my bicuspids still not cover but Im worried that i would end up with an overbite. I asked asked him about it and he said it would work well but I don't see how, he only removed 2 so I have more space in the lower but a wider set of teeth in the upper. What should i do? please help

Silly question about what to do since you are not the dentist and the die has already been cast. However, it sounds like you have a Class III jaw (protruding lower jaw) with the lower teeth being out farther than the uppers. BTW, this is NOT an overbite but a negative overjet relative to the upper teeth. An overbite is a vertical overlap problem and not a front to back problem. Apparently your dentist is attempting to correct a Class III relationship by extracting the premolars and retracting the front teeth to get them behind the upper front teeth where they normally belong.

BTW, most of those friends of yours who had 4 bicuspids extracted will develop TMJ later. You did not have the same orthodontic problem that they had so neither should your treatment be the same.

It will all work out. Braces work my moving the teeth, which have roots all the way down into your jaw bone. It takes a lot of time, which is why you have to have braces for so long. Be patient.
