It is hard to match the color of the crowns to your natural teeth and I can see why your dentist wants to bond the adjacent two teeth. It's easier to match crowns to bonded veneers. The downside would be that you would have to trim those other two teeth when you weren't planning to initially. It's an issue of cosmetics vs tooth preservation. Of course, you can try to have the dentist redo the two front crowns and try to make it match better with the adjacent teeth. Some dentist take photos of the teeth so that the lab has a better understanding of your tooth color.
It's hard to make a retainer fit your teeth after you change the shape of them. You suppose to make the retainer fit your teeth, not the teeth fit your retainer. To make sure your teeth stays straight I would just make a new retainer but after you decide on whether you're going to crown your other teeth. It will cost you more money but that would be the best way to go. (You might want to negotiate with your dentist and have him give you a new retainer if you decide to go ahead with the other two teeth bonded or crowned.)
