Decalcification Repair?!
Question: Decalcification Repair?
I don't particularly want to pay to have my teeth whitened or veneers
Answers:
Your 2 front adult teeth begin crown formation at birth. If around this time you are ill, as you suggest, then the formation of the enamel can be disturbed, and marks can be seen, often horizontal lines, when they finaly erupt at about 6 years old. This is called hypoplastic enamel or hypocalcified enamel. It is difficult to get rid of it by remineralising, as the organic component of the enamel matrix has also failed to form correctly.
This is not the same as demineralisation seen in early tooth decay, which can often be remineralised,
There is a topical tooth gell called GC Tooth Mousse available in the UK which claims to help with hypoplastic enamel, but I have not seen any miraculous results
Microabrasion may be able to help, but often the only way is veneering or crowning
