Dental Assisting Job...Help?!

Question: Dental Assisting Job...Help?
I am currently in college to eventually become a dental hygienist. The only thing is, is that the program my school offers is really hard to get into. Ive heard that its a plus if you work at some sort of dental office prior to applying for the program. My question is, will dental offices hire a young, inexperienced person to assist/ work the front/ clean/ etc. ?? And is there anything I can do to "put myself out there" for them to know I'm serious about having a dental job and I'm not going to quit after 2 months of working there?? Serious answers please. Ive literally been losing sleep over this! Thanks

You can always look around for a job at a dental office to gain a little experience in what it's like to work in a dental setting. If you are going to school at the same time and won't be available to work full time, your best bet would be to look into bigger dental offices (group practices) rather than at solo dental practice. That's because bigger offices usually would have a need for part-timers to do filing, assisting or clean up. Solo dentists may not need that many part-timers.

Talk to your own dentist! He/she should be more than willing to help you out, even if they pay is just minimum wage a couple days a week.

It's not big deal if you cannot find a job in a dental office before applying to the dental hygiene program, it's just a plus, not a requirement! Make sure you are strong in other areas, like academics and other previous jobs, to make yourself the best candidate you can be with what you have.

Yes offices will hire inexperienced people to work as assistants or front desk. No you dont need dental experience. I had 0 dental experience when I started dental hygiene school.
Orthodontists tend to hire assistants that are untrained. Most dental offices will consider you for front desk work or a combination of front desk and assisting. If you are willing to learn many are willing to hire you.
What you need to do is search online for dental or orthodontic assisting jobs or front desk of a dental office and read their requirements and apply if they state you don't need any experience.
