How much will braces affect my teeth in 6 months (for wedding)?!

Question: How much will braces affect my teeth in 6 months (for wedding)?
So I'm gonna go abroad and get married in 6 months.
I need to fix my overbite and fix crowded teeth at the bottom. Now I know 6 months won't get the job done completely but will it at least help a bit (with conventional braces)? Also, can I get wisdom teeth removed while I have my braces? My ortho said he'd need to make spaces between my teeth by filing them. I'm afraid that would the teeth fill those gaps in the 6 months or not? Also, since the teeth shift, would they be in an awkward position by the end of the 6 months? :S
He said it would cost 400 extra to have them taken off and put them back in when I come back 1 month later. Also, would the teeth move back into position in that one month? I need my teeth improved by September. By what month of braces did you guys see a difference in your teeth? I also talked to him about Invisalign, but it takes 4 weeks for them to ship from California to Canada, so I think I'll stay away from that, since that's another month wasted.

HI there!

Six months could be significant depending on how bad your teeth are. If your treatment is around a year your teeth will look improved within those months (with my sister, she had braces for a full year and we found the last 2 months were just holding the teeth in place). The overbite will make the treatment longer as it is going to move your jaw but again, six months will make some change.

Now for wisdom tooth removal. I guess it really depends on which way you get that done, if it is through the oral surgeon like I did (I'm from Canada too) then you are going to be on the waiting list for about a year. I have Invisalign and during my treatment I go the call that there was a cancellation so I could get them out. I did and I will not lie, it was pretty brutal. Cleaning especially was a problem when getting wisdom teeth out with Invisalign, so I imagine it would be worse with braces. I do not regret getting them out because it would have messed my treatment up so I'm happy it is done and over with.

As for making the spaces, if your ortho does it properly you should not see the spaces he makes. I have to get this done with my Invisalign and when he does it, I don't notive it when looking in the mirror (although when I floss I notice a difference). He does it with my front teeth so I am very critical when looking at it. As long as he just take a little bit off at a time then you should be fine. express your worries to your ortho about this and he will put your mind at ease.

For getting your teeth go back to position after 1 month, no they should not unless you don't wear the retainer that they should give to you. If they don't give you a retainer, your teeth will probably start shifting back to the position that they were in before.

Invisalign for me took longer than the 4 weeks, I went to get them in May and didn't get them actually put on till the middly of July! Between shipping the moulds to Cali, getting them to make a plan, then recieving the plan, getting an appointment to approve it, then the manufacturing, shipping to Canada and getting an appointment to get them on is a LONG process. It is probably the best idea to get braces if you want to get the best results the fastest. Have you ever considered veneers? That would be the fastest
