Why do I intend to swallow when something touches my back teeth?!

Question: Why do I intend to swallow when something touches my back teeth?
When something touches my back teeth, I intend to swallow. When I had my molding, it was horrible. She tried to put the molding but I kept on choking because she tried to stuff the molding onto my back teeth. I'm going to have braces soon(next month, February 21st) and I'm afraid when the dentist is going to put the braces on my back teeth, I'll choke on the braces or swallow it or something!!!!!!!
I think this is a habit or something, and I would like to snap out of this habit. But why do I intend to swallow when something touches my back teeth?

For extra credit:Answer these questions =)

1)Does braces hurt if you have a severe overbite?! (7 mm or cm!)

2)Does headgear (or neck gear?) hurt?

I think it's just natural that you would want to swallow. You will not choke on braces because they are glued to your teeth, and even if one bracket were to fall off, the othrs would hold it on until you could get it fixed.

1) First of all, 7mm, not cm! Anyway, it hurts for the first few days after you get them on and after you get them changed, but it won't hurt all the time. Sometimes sharp edges on the wire or the brackets may cut your mouth, in which case you can get wax to cover that up.

2)I do not know because I didn't have to use that, but I don't think so.

i had braces

It's just a gag reflex :) I have the same problem:) I wore braces for almost 3 years and nothing even came close to happening like that :) you'll be fine, it doesn't hurt at all :) I had the worst overbite! I've never had headgear and I highly doubt it hurts :)

thats your gay(g) reflex. haha but seriously my sister had head gear and she said it hurt like hell. they put ****** screws into your skull.
