Should I keep wearing my retainer?!

Question: Should I keep wearing my retainer?
My orthodontist adjusted the wire on my retainer and now it doesn't fit anymore. I'm supposed to wear it at night but when I wake up in the morning my mouth hurts a lot and sometimes there are deep grooves in my gum where the plastic part cuts into it. I rang the practice to find out if I should get a new retainer and they said I could if I wanted, but that it would cost several hundred dollars and that I should continue to wear it until I got a new one. Lately I've resorted to only wearing the top one at night and wearing the bottom one for a few hours a day but i've heard that wearing ill-fitting retainers can damage your mouth. Is that true? Also, I've been wearing my retainers for almost 5 years and I am really tempted to just stop wearing them. I'm 20, so are my teeth likely to move around a lot?

Hi Dreamer ,
I feel that you should keep wearing your retainer only if you feel that your teeth positions are back to normal to some extent . Its only you who should feel it ( I mean just have a self check on you teeth in front of the mirror ) . You must be knowing it by now like how satisfied you are with your teeth .

So just stop wearing it if you feel it would be ok . If you really have a great need to wear it , then better go consult some good Dentist apart from the one you are visiting regularly . Just get their opinion and dont stick on with them . Just consulting some other Orthodentist who is better than the one you are visiting is usually better ( That is what i did ! ! ).

So i would kindly suggest you to wear it ( If you really feel it is necessary by analyzing your face looks ). If it troubles you even then and you dont have the necessary to wear it , then please remove it off and wear it only when you feel like .

Overall its always better to consult some other better ( I mean preferably best)orthodentist apart from whom you are visiting regularly .

So hope my information regarding your question really helped you a lot to some extent .
And Beleive me , I have provided this information outta my own experience in wearing Retainer .

Hope that Helped

Hi dreamer,

Bleeding gums is a common occurrence but it is not a good thing. My gums used to bleed when brushing my teeth. Since going to see my dentist on a regular basis and having them scaled and polished my gums are so much healthier.

They feel clean and I no longer have bad breathe.

My dentist said bleeding gums if not treated will lead to more serious gum disease which if extreme can lead to tooth loss but also more at risk of heart disease.

I was so concerned when he told me that he told me about a video which will help me to understand the situatiojn which had a link to a Free Gum report .

This certainly helped me and if you are serious about your mouth and health in general get to the link I have put in the resource box below.

Get rid of bleeding gums and get your smile back. See the video now!!
